## Overview

Tenhou, the heavenly hand or dealer's blessing, is a yakuman awarded to the dealer who completes a winning hand on their very first draw, the dealt fourteen tiles themselves, before any tile is discarded and before any call is made. In other words, the dealer is dealt a complete winning hand. It is the dealer's counterpart to chiihou, the earthly hand a non-dealer can win on their opening self-draw. Tenhou is purely a matter of luck, with odds in the hundreds of thousands, and it cannot be influenced by skill in any way. As a yakuman it pays the full dealer amount of 48,000 points regardless of the underlying shape of the hand. Because only the dealer takes the very first action of a hand, and only a fully complete dealt hand qualifies, tenhou is among the rarest occurrences in all of mahjong and is essentially a once-in-a-lifetime event for most players.

## Conditions

- You must be the **dealer** (East seat)
- Your initial **14-tile deal** must already form a complete winning hand
- No draws, discards, or calls occur -- the hand is won **immediately** upon dealing
- The hand is inherently **closed** since no actions have taken place
- The hand does not need to contain any other yaku -- tenhou itself is yakuman regardless of the hand's composition
- This is purely a matter of **luck** with no strategic element

## Strategy Tips

- Tenhou is entirely luck-based and cannot be strategized or planned for. It either happens on the deal or it doesn't. Just enjoy the moment if it ever occurs.
- The probability of tenhou is approximately 1 in 300,000 hands, making it one of the rarest events in mahjong. Most players will never experience it, even in a lifetime of play.
- If you are playing online and receive tenhou, take a screenshot. It is a genuinely memorable event worth documenting, and some platforms even track it as a special achievement.
